The Town of Harrisburg was named after Robert Harris’s family. He developed his own land in this area in 1766. The Harris Depot, which was a railroad station, was built in the 1850’s. After it underwent some changing in 1874, the named was changed from The Harris Depot to Harrisburg. Harrisburg NC was finally incorporated as a town in 1973.
