The Town of Matthews was incorporated in 1891. The town originally began as a farming town. The town flourished when a railroad company built a railroad through the town that went from Wilmington, NC to Tennessee.

Matthews is located 10 miles from downtown Charlotte. Matthews covers 17.18 square miles and features a charming downtown, great neighborhoods, a hospital, quality schools, and churches.

Every year, Matthews is host to a great labor day party called Matthews Alive.  Downtown Matthews preserves it's heritage with it's historic buildings that contain a myriad of shops and boutiques.

On last census check, the population was 26,600. The average gross income is $68,800.  Home values range from $145-$500,000. The average price of a home is $207,100.
