Tega Cay Real Estate
Tega Cay means “beautiful peninsula” in Tahitian. A developer from Charlotte, Charlie Erwin, purchased and named this area in 1970. The first things built in Tega Cay were the roads, a huge clubhouse, tennis courts, and a golf course. Once home construction started, a huge guard gate was constructed.
In 1982, instead of filing for bankruptcy, Tega Cay became a city in order to ensure the rights and protect the best interests of the homeowners and to better direct the community’s future. Tega Cay is a 1600 acre peninsula located on the east side of Lake Wylie fifteen miles south of Charlotte. There is a sixteen miles of shoreline, great neighborhoods, shopping, and dining located in this small town. The population is 4,719. Planned growth with Newland Carolina Development is more than double the population by 2010. The average gross income is $98,000. Home values range from $150-$525,000. The average price of a home is $216,400.
